Behind the song

“Carols Rhapsody” is a rhapsody of English-language carols and songs arranged by DJ Beat (2022).

A musical rhapsody refers to the song that is composed of the free union of various melodic and rhythmic the

mes that are unrelated to each other. Throughout the history of music, rhapsodies have been composed that have become very popular with composers such as Brahms, Liszt or more recently such as G. Gershwin (1926, "Rhapsody in Blue") or the group

Queen (1975, "Bohemian Rhapsody").

"Carols Rhapsody" consists of 4 songs:

1.- “Silent Night”, a well-known carol originally composed in German by the Austrian Franz Xaver Gruber and written by Joseph Mohr. It was first performed on December 24, 1818.

The song was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011, being recorded by many artists and in various musical genres.

Bing Crosby's version is the most popular in the world, being the third best-selling single in history.

2.- “Joy to the World”, one of the most popular carol in English-speaking countries.

Its music was composed by American Lowell Mason in 1839 from lyrics written in 1719 by theologian Isaac Watts, which was based on Psalm 98 of the Bible.

3.- “We Wish you a merry Christmas”, an anonymous 16th century carol from England.

The origin of the carols in the English tradition is related to the custom of the rich people of the community to present Christmas carols to the singers on Christmas Eve. It is one of the few traditional English carol mentioned on New Year's E

ve.

4.- “Jingle Bells”, one of the most well-known and sung traditional winter songs in the world. It was written between 1850-57 by the American composer James Pierpont under the title "The One Horse Open Sleigh".

Despite being intimately connected to Christmas, it is not specifically a carol, as it is not mentioned in its lyrics, and is about horse racing.
