A cover letter

A covering letter is written when you want to apply for a job.

Bear in mind:

  • If you know the name of the person you are addressing use:
    • Dear Mr / Ms (Smith) --> to begin
    • Your sincerely --> to finish
  • If you don't know it
    • Dear Sir / Madam --> to begin
    • Your faithfully --> to finish
  • Write in formal style: avoid contractions, colloquial expressions
