JUSTIFICATION

The purpose of this resource is to offer support material that invites you to learn about a different culture and country. It is, fundamentally, about practical knowledge. In this sense, a series of basic information about Canada has been selected. This material is not aimed at a specific area of ​​knowledge, so it can be used according to its relevance within the curriculum or according to your needs in the development of classes. It is brief but varied information, which includes characteristic elements of the country: general information, legends, traditions and customs, as well as some places of interest and other curiosities.

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL TO WHICH IT IS DIRECTED

This proposal is aimed at students in the second and third cycle of primary education.

SUBJECTS

Proposal based on teaching the English language with transversal involvement in the different subjects of the primary education curriculum.

TIMING

Ten teaching sessions.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Linguistic  Objectives

To introduce students to basic vocabulary related to basic information about Canada. To encourage the active use of the English language.

Non-Linguistic  Objectives

  • To learn and explore about the cultural and geographical diversity of a country (Canada).
  • To identify and understand significant musical compositions from a country.
  • To promote understanding and appreciation of the importance of preserving the environment.
  • To use different artistic expression techniques to create your own representations.
  • To promote healthy lifestyles in the areas of nutrition, food and sport.
  • To show interest and respect for different cultures, taking into account the gender perspective and attention to diversity.

EDUCATIONAL CONTENT

Linguistic:

Students are introduced to the basic language related to the country grouped into three main contexts: culture, nature and customs.

Not linguistic:

  • Identification of significant elements of the geography and culture of a country (Canada).
  • Knowledge and understanding of different ecosystems and their biodiversity.
  • Exploration of different artistic techniques.
  • Identifying healthy lifestyle habits in the field of nutrition, food and sport.
  • Respect for different cultures.
  • Commitment to attention to diversity and gender perspective.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA AND ASSESSMENT TOOLS

This resource takes a transversal approach that will value the recognition and appreciation of the cultural and natural wealth of a country (Canada); reinforce and enhace healthy behaviors and promote understanding and awareness of environmental preservation.

Direct observation will be the main assessment tools, taking into account also that several activities allow for self-assessment.
