Peter: Wendy, can you help me? I want to buy something new for my room. Look at this great website. They’ve got amazing things.
Wendy: Oh, what fun! Let me see, Peter. That’s a nice rug. Have you got a rug in your room?
Peter: Yes, I have. I’ve got a big red rug.
Wendy: OK. So a rug isn’t a good idea. There are beautiful curtains. Are there any curtains on your window?
Peter: Yes, there are.
Wendy: What colour are they?
Peter: They’re also red. There’s a red blanket on my bed, too. Red is my favourite colour.
Wendy: I can see that. How many pillows have you got?
Peter: Six. I’ve got a big bed.
Wendy: OK, so forget about a new pillow. I know. Maybe a lamp. Do you like this lamp?
Peter: Yes, but I’ve got a lamp.
Wendy: Where is it?
Peter: It’s on my desk. I do homework at my desk at night.
Wendy: Yeah, me too. How about some posters? There are some nice posters on the website.
Peter: There are posters on all my walls. I’ve got posters of my favourite celebrities.
Wendy: OK, that’s it. I can’t find anything for your room. You’ve already got everything!

Plans for a house
(Tapescrip) Unit 2 Page 23, Exercises 7 and 8
Susan: Hey, Jim. What’s this?
Jim: It’s a drawing of a house, Susan.
Susan: What’s it for?
Jim: It’s for the Design Your Dream House Contest. This is my dream house.
Susan: Really? It looks small.
Jim: It is small. There’s only one bedroom.
Susan: One bedroom? What about a place for friends?
Jim: Hmm. That’s a problem. Well, there’s a sofa in the living room.
Susan: That’s good. Is this the bedroom? It’s long and narrow.
Jim: Yes, and it’s got one bed in it – my bed. And, of course, there’s a cupboard for my things.
Susan: I see. Is this the living room?
Jim: Yes.
Susan: It’s very big.
Jim: Well actually, it’s a dining room and a living room.
Susan: Where’s the sofa?
Jim: It’s right here. There’s also a table and there are two chairs. Oh, and there’s a plasma TV.
Susan: Wow! That’s great!
Jim: I know.
Susan: Is there a bathroom?
Jim: Of course there is. It’s small, but it’s got a toilet and a shower.
Susan: Hmm. Something is wrong with this house.
Jim: What? What’s wrong with it?
Susan: There isn’t a kitchen.
Jim: Of course there isn’t a kitchen. There’s no reason for a kitchen. My dream house is next to Joe’s Pizza Place. I can have pizza every day!

(Tapescript) Unit 7 Page 92, Exercises 4 and 5
Dan: Mum?
Mum: Yes, Dan.
Dan: Where’s my clock? I can’t find it.
Mum: Your clock?
Dan: Yes, I need it to get up in the morning.
Mum: There was a big box in the kitchen. I think it’s in that box.
Dan: In the kitchen? Why’s it in the kitchen?
Mum: I don’t know. The moving company was terrible! Everything’s in the wrong place.
The microwave was in the living room! Who puts a microwave in the living room?Dan: Well it’s a very modern microwave. It looks like a TV and TVs go in the living room ...
Mum: OK, but what does the dishwasher look like? That was in the dining room.
Dan: Really? The dishwasher was in the dining room? Actually, that’s a great idea. We can put the dirty plates in the dishwasher right after the meal. That’s much easier than taking them to the kitchen.
Mum: Very funny, Dan. Do you know where your father is?
Dan: Yes, he’s working in the bathroom.
Mum: Why’s he in the bathroom?
Dan: He’s cleaning the washing machine. There were hundreds of things on it so it’s very dirty.
Mum: Wait, the washing machine’s in the bathroom?
Dan: Er… yeah...
Mum: Oh, no! The washing machine goes in the kitchen. I’m really angry now.
Dan: So you don’t want to know about the curtains, then.
Mum: What about the curtains?
Dan: Nothing … it’s just …. they’re in the garden.
Mum: In the garden?
Dan: Yes. They’re in the garden … on the oven.
Mum: The oven’s in the garden, too? This is ridiculous!

Emily: I don’t like spaghetti with tomato sauce.
Dan: Really? OK, so not spaghetti with tomato sauce… Oh, there’s steak.
Emily: Steak?
Dan: Yes, steak and chips. You like steak and chips.
Emily: Yes, I like steak and chips, but that’s a big meal. I don’t want a big lunch.
Dan: You don’t want a big lunch. So have eggs! You like eggs and that isn’t a big lunch.
Emily: Yes, but I can have eggs at home. You don’t go to a restaurant for eggs.
Dan: Well, I don’t know. Have pancakes, or sausages, or…
Emily: Wait, what was that?
Dan: Sausages?
Emily: No, the other thing.
