INTERVALS

An interval is the musical word for the distance between two notes.

Notes close together make small intervals. Notes further apart make larger intervals.
There are two ways of playing an interval:
    

MELODIC INTERVAL 
When one note jumps up or down to another note,
ascending or descending

HARMONIC INTERVAL
When two notes are played at the same time.
They are chords too.

The name of an interval is a NUMBER.
You get the number by counting up the stave from the botton note to the top note.
You include the bottom and top notes in your counting.
h  The interval between G and E is a 6th (G-A-B-C-D-E are 6 notes)
