If you use DOT, TIE and TRIPLET symbols you can create more complicated, interesting and sophisticated rhythms.
DOTTED NOTES
A dotted note is a note with a small dot written after it.
The dot increases the duration of the basic note or rest by half of its original value (50%).
If the basic note lasts 2 beats, the corresponding dotted note lasts 3 beats and so on.

TIE
A tie is a curved line connecting the heads of two notes of the same pitch.
It turns them into only one note.
Only the first note is
played, the duration of the second one is added on to the first.
This
enables a note to last for more than one bar.

TRIPLETS
A triplet is three notes (all the same duration) played in the time of two.
Triplets are marked with a "3" above or below the middle of the three notes.
The notes don't all have to be played, because part of a triplet can be rests.
