Timbre (pronunced "TAM-BER") is the quality that lets you know which is the SOUND SOURCE or
the KIND OF SOUND.
It is called the COLOR OF MUSIC.
If
a flute plays a note, and then an oboe plays the same note (same
pitch), for the same length of time, at the same intensity, you can
still easily distinguish between the two sounds, because a flute sounds
different from an oboe. This difference is in the timbre of the sounds.
IN PHYSICS it depends on the WAVES FORM or the
HARMONICS combination in the vibrations.
IN MUSIC we have different types of voice:
Different instruments: shapes, material, how to play them
We
can play a string intrument bowed (violin), plucked (guitar) or
beated (piano)

We
can play woodwinds or brass blowed

We can play percussion
instruments shaken (maracas), tapped (bongo) or banged (drumkit)
