Competency-based learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Understand general and specific information, intentions, opinions and attitudes of a wide range of long, specialized, complex oral and written texts, even if they deal with issues out of one's field of specialization. The articulation speed may be high and conceptual relations not explicitly marked, provided that some details can be confirmed or re-read.

• Produce and coproduce almost effortlessly a wide range of complex oral and written texts, showing command of a wide range of linguistic resources and discourse strategies that make occasional difficulties imperceptible, using complex structures as well as lexical and cohesive devices that allow conveying different nuances.

• Mediate efficiently between speakers of English or other languages, in personal, public, academic and professional fields, transferring with accuracy and efficiency information appearing in a wide range of complex oral and written texts, using linguistic resources and discourse strategies to minimize any occasional difficulties that may arise.
