B2.1 Level (Upper-Intermediate I)

Listening
Students can understand extended speech and lectures and follow complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. They can also understand most TV news, current affairs programmes and many films in standard dialect, although they may still need to rely on context or repetition in fast-paced exchanges.

Speaking
Learners can interact with native and non-native speakers with a fair degree of fluency and spontaneity, making communication possible without much effort on either side. They can participate actively in discussions on familiar topics, give clear descriptions, express viewpoints, and develop arguments, showing an increasing ability to use appropriate register and connectors.

Reading
Students can read and understand articles, reports and contemporary literary texts where the writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints. They can grasp both the overall meaning and specific details, identifying arguments and opinions in longer, more complex texts, even when they are not explicitly stated.

Mediation
At this stage, learners can convey information, ideas and opinions from texts or oral messages in English or in their own language to a target audience in a clear and structured way. They can explain the main points of news, presentations or written documents, and adapt the style and register depending on the communicative situation.

Writing
Students can produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects. They can write essays, reports, reviews, emails and articles that develop arguments, give reasons, and explain advantages and disadvantages of different options. Their written production shows growing accuracy, organisation, and use of a wider range of vocabulary and cohesive devices.
