Enrolment options

This course is specially designed for students who wish to become advanced users of English, a C1 level which corresponds to the highest level of the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, designed by the Council of Europe.

It is important to bear in mind that it is not easy to reach C1 from B2, since you will need to overcome the so-called intermediate plateau. If you have reached this plateau, you are able to perform the four skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing) reasonably well. However, the amount of new knowledge that you can gain once you have reached this level becomes less and less, as a lot of your time and effort is devoted to reinforcing what you have already learnt. As a consequence, beyond B2 you may well spend hours and hours studying English, but you won’t feel like you are making much progress or even feel you are not making progress at all.

Students with a level C1 in English are able to:

  • Understand a wide range of more demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning in them.
  • Express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for the right expression.
  • Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
  • Produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing correct use of register, organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
