  • We can count them: one bandage, two bandages, etc
  • They can be plural

Uncountable

  • We cannot count them individually
  • They do not have a plural form
  • Examples: medicine, equipment, blood, oxygen, advice

  SINGULAR/Uncountable PLURAL
POSITIVE

There is a patient waiting.

There is some medicine in the ambulance.

There are three patients waiting.
NEGATIVE

There isn't a thermometer in the first-aid kit.

There isn't any disinfectant in the ambulance.

QUESTIONS

  Countable (plural) Uncountable
POSITIVE We have some bandages. We have some medicine for your illness. 
NEGATIVE We don't have any bandages. We don't have any IV fluids.
QUESTIONS Are there any bandages? Is there any equipment in the ambulance?
