The Good Grammar Book

Completion requirements
The Good Grammar Book is a grammar book I really like and I fully recommend. Unfortunately, it is out of print and not available at book shops, but here you have a pdf copy. Four pages are missing from the pdf copy and they are included separately.

As this is your first contact with the English language, you may think that one drawback of this book is that everything is in English, but explanations are very short, it is a good practice to try hard to understand and it certainly will be useful to you for many years to come.

The organization of the book is very useful. It's divided into sections and there's a pre-test at the beginning of each section. When you correct this pre-test, you have some page numbers that direct you to the related exercises. So, you don't have to do all the exercises in the section, only the ones that are wrong. Then, at the end of the section you also have a final test to review everything.

Here are the recommended sections to study during this module:
  • Section 2: Present tenses (pp26-30)
  • Section 4: Past tenses (up to p47))
  • Section 6: Modal verbs (have to p75; can pp78-79 & p83; would p88)
  • Section 9: Infinitive (p118 & 120-123) & V-ing (pp129-131)
  • Section 10: Imperatives (p142) & suggestions (p143)
  • Section 12: Determiners (pp169-178)
  • Section 14: Nouns (noun + noun pp196-197)
  • Section 16: Conjunctions (pp220-224)
