OUTCOME FOR TASK 11: "Introducing a classmate" (oral presentation)
For this task, you want to introduce a classmate. First, you’re going to prepare a questionnaire to interview one of your classmates, and after the interview, you’re going to record an oral presentation introducing him or her. Follow this roadmap to complete the task:
On your own: Look at the questions in units 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B, 7A, 7B and 8B of our textbook English File. Choose at least one question from each of the seven units, and some questions from the first units to ask about personal information. Write about ten questions.
With a partner on WhatsApp or on the phone: Interview a classmate with your questionnaire (the ten questions). Write the basic information (some notes, not complete sentences) from the answers he or she gives you.
On your own: Organize the information about your classmate in a coherent paragraph to have an idea of what you’re going to record. You can find a model for the oral presentation below. Write between 100 and 120 words (don’t count the introductions, i.e. the words in bold in the model below).
Recording your presentation: When you record your oral presentation, don’t read the text. Refer to your previous notes and record the talk to introduce your classmate as naturally as possible.
Submitting your online questionnaire and audio file: When you click on the task, you’ll find the space “Online text”. Write the questionnaire prepared for the interview here and upload your audio file (not exceeding 5MB), following the instructions in the next paragraph. You’ll have until Wednesday 13 April to submit the task. After that date, submissions won’t be accepted.
To
upload your audio file (not exceeding 5MB and on one of the formats
mentioned in the task, e.g. mp3) with a presentation having the
characteristics mentioned above, click on "Add
Submission." Then, click on the
arrow (if the arrow doesn't work, click on the left-hand top
corner drawing of a file, which shows the word "Add..."
when you place the cursor on it). After that, a new window appears,
the "File Picker,"
and here, click on “Choose file”
(if this doesn't appear, click on "Upload
a file" on the left), and thus,
you can see your computer files on the new window. Once you choose
the file you want to submit, click on “Upload
this file.” Finally, don’t
forget to click “Save changes,”
so that the file remains uploaded.
Model for the presentation
I’m going to talk about my classmate Daisy. First, I’m going to give you some personal data. Then, I’m going to tell you about her daily routine. Finally, I’m going to tell you about her likes and dislikes. Daisy is 25 years old and she’s Argentinian. She’s tall and thin, with long blond hair and blue eyes, and she wears glasses. She’s a primary school teacher because she likes working with children. Now, let me tell you about her daily routine. Every day she gets up very early at 6.00 because she starts work at 8.30 and she goes to work by bus. She finishes work at 4.30. She gets home at about 6.00, and she has dinner at 8.00. After dinner, she sometimes watches TV. She usually goes to bed at about 11.00. Finally, I’m going to tell you a little about her likes and dislikes. She likes eating out, so she goes to restaurants with her friends once a month. She doesn’t like watching football on TV. She loves fantasy films, and her favourite films are the series of Harry Potter. That’s all.
