We all intuitively know what a line is and while many works of art emphasize this basic element in their structure, others only create lines by the contrast between light and dark or different colors. In this section, we will go beyond our first intuition about line and acquire more competence in its characteristics, expressions and relationships within the context of the art world.

Roadmap: First, we will activate some basic ideas, together with vocabulary and useful expressions, with a video defining this element. Second, we will optionally further our familiarity with a summary of the discussion on the line by Russian artist and art theorist Wassily Kansinsky taken from his classic 1926 book Point and Line to Plane. Third, we will have two other optional activities: a graded quiz and an assignment to upload. Finally, the most important part of the module is to share your ideas with your fellow-participants on the module forum.
