📝 How to Do the Written Mediation Task (B1 – EOI Galicia)
In the written mediation task, you must read a text in English and explain the important information in English to another person. Your goal is to make the message clearer, shorter, and easier to understand.
It is not translation and not copying. It is explaining.
🎯 What you need to do
- Read the original text carefully.
- Identify the main ideas (what is important for the other person).
- Rewrite the information in your own words.
- Adapt the message to the person you are writing to (friend, classmate, colleague…).
- Simplify difficult vocabulary or long sentences.
- Organise the information clearly.
🧩 What you must NOT do
- Don’t copy long sentences from the original text.
- Don’t add information that is not in the text.
- Don’t give your opinion unless the task asks for it.
🧱 Recommended structure
-
Short introduction
Say why you are writing.
Example: “I’m writing to explain the information from the notice.”
-
Main ideas
Write the important points in a clear order.
- What it is about
- Who it is for
- Dates / times / prices
- Requirements
- Useful details
-
Final sentence
Example: “Let me know if you need more details.”
🧠 Useful strategies
- Use simple connectors: first, then, also, however, finally.
- Change difficult words to easier ones.
- Shorten long sentences.
- Keep a neutral, friendly tone.
