Morpheus, just to go along with Ton’s excellent post, I would personally say that all of the SOCOM units differentiate between “gut-check” courses and “gentleman’s courses”. A gut-check course generally consists of the following cycle:

1. Make sure people know it is very hard, high attrition, etc.

2. Collect people arrogant/confident/narcissistic/focused enough to think they can make it.

3. Create training evolutions which combine A) Fear/intimidation, B) Confrontation of said fear, C) Suffering, D) Victory (hopefully), and then E) Acceleration
