With respect, I think that the problem you discuss is more a mis-understanding of what the information of personality theory is supposed to do than anything else. And that is a common mis-understanding.

For example, your statement that your ability to act in public demonstrates that you are not an “introverted geek”, or conversely that being introverted would somehow prevent you from acting well in public.

Introversion is a social attitude (as is extroversion). It does not equal “shy-ness”. It simply means that an introvert gains energy/recharges himself by being alone, whereas an extrovert recharges his batteries by being in public. I am about as introverted as they come, yet I am an excellent public speaker/lecturer. One does not relate to the other.

It isn’t that the theory is imprecise, it’s that people mis-apply it. And also, the tests that are commonly used are horribly imprecise.
